A new article titled “Health literacy and empowerment for people with severe mental illnesses” and published in psychopraxis.neuropraxis provides insights into the relevance of improving health literacy and empowerment, especially for people with mental ill-health. People with mental ill-health are faced with a high disease burden as well as somatic health risks. The situation is amplified by barriers and inequalities in access and utilization of healthcare for this population. To target these issues and promote the health of people with mental ill-health, this article outlines the concepts of health literacy and empowerment as well as ways for healthcare workers to enhance them in practice. A case study underlines the theoretical input. The article was written in German by Hanna Mües, Igor Grabovac, and Henriette Löffler-Stastka.
