We are delighted to share that Igor has been elected to the Oncology Advisory Board (Onkologiebeirat) of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection for the 2026–2031 term. Established in 2009, this key multi-professional and honorary body serves as a vital bridge between scientific expertise and health policy in Austria. The advisory board is tasked with steering the strategic development of evidence-based care for cancer patients and their families, advising on current issues in cancer prevention, and guiding the implementation and evolution of the Austrian Cancer Framework Programme (Nationales Krebsrahmenprogramm).
This role carries a profound responsibility, particularly from a public health perspective. Comprehensive cancer care must extend far beyond diagnostics and therapy to seamlessly integrate primary prevention, early detection, rehabilitation, survivorship, and palliative care. Igor’s central objective on the board is to advocate for a national healthcare pathway that is scientifically rigorous, of the highest quality, and equitably accessible to all communities. This appointment is a great recognition of his dedication to health equity and social medicine research.
